The Pebble prospect is situated on state land designated for mineral exploration and development through two democratically driven land-use planning processes.
- Part of five land parcels within the Bristol Bay Area Plan specifically identified as containing "significant mineral potential."'
- Represents only 2.7% of the total planning area
- Planing area includes vast areas designated for the protection of fish,wildlife populations and habitats
- Roughly 200 miles Southwest from Anchorage and 70 miles from tidewater at Cook Inlet.
- 20 air miles northwest of Iliamna, Nondalton and Newhalen
- Within the Lake & Peninsula Borough
Mineral Discovery
The Pebble prospect, located in Southwest Alaska, is one of the largest concentrations of copper, gold, molybdenum and silver in the world.
- 80.6 billion lbs. of copper
- 5.6 billion lbs. of molybdenum
- 107.4 million oz. of gold
- Commercially significant amounts of silver, rhenium and palladium
Infrastructure Assessments
The Pebble Partnership is assessing various infrastructure options required to responsibly develop the Pebble prospect that may enhance local resources and communities. No decisions have been made at this time, and all serious options will be open to public dialogue and community input. Considerations may include:
- Multi-modal port site
- Electrical facility potentially powering mine operations and nearby communities
- Pipelines following road corridor
- An 86-mile restricted access industrial road
